Jackie Kennedy’s Georgetown home is for sale. The six bedroom, 5 1/2 bath estate at 3017 N Street NW is on the market for $8,995,000. It was privately listed over the summer for $9,750,000.
Mrs. Kennedy occupied the Georgetown residence immediately after the assassination of President Kennedy. The estate quickly became a tourist destination making it difficult for Jackie to mourn privately, so she left for New York City.
The home comes on the market after the recent passing of Washington socialite, Yolande Betbeze Fox. Mrs. Fox acquired the property for $75,000. A source states, “Yolande found the house pretty much as Jackie left it, and in fact on the verge of a planned overhaul by decorator Billy Baldwin. The departure for New York was so hasty (Jackie’d had it with Washington) that she left behind the bolts of fabric Baldwin had ordered, and some of Caroline and John’s toys, which Yolande pointed out to me during a tour of the basement.”
For those of you that are not familiar with Yolande Betbeze Fox, she was a socialite who became a Democratic Party fundraiser and entertained the most powerful people in Washington. The former 1951 Miss America recently passed away at the age of 87.
Let’s take a look inside the Georgetown estate.
I love the spacious entry hall to this Georgetown estate. The home has been updated and renovated over the years but the design stays true to the traditional architecture of this home.
A beautiful fireplace and original hardwood floors make up the formal living room of this estate. What do you think of the staging?
The formal dining room was the perfect setting for Mrs. Fox’s elaborate dinner parties with her famous guests! Did I mention this home was originally built in 1794 and on the National Register?
A beautiful home in the heart of Georgetown. I wonder who will acquire this 222 year old piece of history?
